    ABOUT DOING RESEARCH The professor. Gracyelle believes that doing research is very similar to the experience of playing video games . That's why he developed a gamified method to work with students under his guidance. RESEARCH GPSANKOFA GPSankofa works with different lines of research that seek to identify expressions of racism in our society and Afro-diasporic transgressions. GPSankofa is registered in the CNPq Research Group Directory RESEARCH SUBJECTS Eugenics and racism: State, work, social policy and professional practice Social Movements and the State: Affirmative Actions and Social Policy Teaching transgress: critical training, technologies and pedagogical strategies CURRENT RESEARCH Eugenics and racism: State, work, social policy and professional practice in the first half of the 20th century The objective of the current research conducted by Prof. Dr. Gracyelle Costa Ferreira is to investigate the relationship between eugenics, social policy and the professional practice of social workers (and other categories) in the first half of the 20th century. ​ This research dialogues with the works of Dr. Costa Ferreira, such as her award-winning doctoral thesis and other publications, which can be locatedhere . Other projects Currently Prof. Dr. Gracyelle Costa Ferreira is also conducting research on artificial intelligence, eugenics and racism.

    History The Sankofa Research Group "Racism, Social Policy and Transgressions in African Diaspora" , emerged from the professor's research work of professor Dr. Gracyelle Costa (ESS/UFRJ) and brings together people from different areas interested in the subject. ​Our objective is to investigate the relationship between eugenics, racism, and social policy in the 20th and 21st centuries. At the same time let us identify the resistance , and transgressions collectively built by black communities in the Diaspora in the past, present, and future . To this end, GPSankofa carries out teaching, research, and extension activities, involving people interested in the subject. ​ Core elements Research lines: Eugenics and racism : State, work, social policy and professional practice Social Movements and State: Affirmative Actions and Social Policy Teaching transgress : critical training, technologies and pedagogical strategies Coordinator I am a professor at the Department of Social Policy (DPSS-ESS) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro ( UFRJ ) in Brazil. ​ I have a bachelor's degree, master's degree, doctorate and post-doctorate in Social Work. In 2022 and 2023 I was a visiting researcher at the Afro-Latin American Research Institute of the Hutchins Center at Harvard University to develop research initiated in PUC São Paulo. And in 2019 and 2020, I was on a sandwich doctorate at University of Texas , also in the United States. ​ In 2021 I won the Capes Thesis Prize for the best doctoral thesis of Brazil in my area, Social Service.     Unraveling research: a guide for TCCs, dissertations and theses Registration until February 29th! FREE extension course focusing on how to do research and how to present your results. The proposal is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students and also people who are not in the academic environment and would like to carry out research and disseminate their results according to the terms of social research. About selection criteria The results of the "Uncovering Research" course registration will be sent to everyone (selected or not) by email on March 11th at 11:59 pm. ​ Some criteria were considered to select students for this first edition ​ Entries with the following situations were not selected : ​ Completed doctorate; Level 4 or 5 in the level of research knowledge; Undergraduate students who are not taking TCC; Undergraduate student who did not indicate the period they are studying in 24.1 Undergraduate student from the 1st to the 5th period (period incompatible with TCC); He indicated that he is studying for an undergraduate, master's, or doctorate degree, but did not provide the name of the course; People who are studying a master's or doctorate, but checked the option “none…” in the question “In 24.1 are you doing a TCC, dissertation or thesis?”; Training in an area of knowledge not included in the course (those covered are: Human Sciences, Social Sciences and Applied Social Sciences and Literature) Answers with 'period' or 'asterisk' to questions about 'doubts' and/or 'expectations' (in both or one of the questions); People who have already taken a research course with Prof. Gracyelle Costa The classification of approved applications took into account the essay responses to questions and expectations regarding the research and the course. ​ Appeals will not be accepted unless a material error is identified. ​ In addition to your Inbox, check Spam. Aqui você encontrará perguntas e respostas mais comuns sobre o nosso curso de extensão. ​ O que é um curso de extensão? A extensão universitária visa estimular a troca de saberes entre estudantes, docentes e pessoas que não estão formalmente matriculadas nas universidades. Um curso de extensão é uma dessas iniciativas para promover trocas de conhecimento entre sociedade e universidade. Um curso de extensão tem carga horária definida com conteúdo e aulas oferecidas por equipe de docentes, estudantes e convidados. O que é o curso “Desvendando a pesquisa”? “Desvendando a pesquisa: um guia para TCCs, dissertações e teses” é um curso que tem o objetivo de trabalhar elementos básicos acerca da pesquisa social: metodologias de pesquisa e exposição de resultados. ​ Qual o objetivo do curso? A meta é formar pesquisadores e pesquisadoras, como pessoas que compreendam o processo de fazer pesquisa e a partir disso dialoguem com questões que envolvem a sociedade brasileira e internacional. ​ Quantas vagas serão oferecidas? Haverá a oferta de 100 vagas. Das vagas totais, serão reservadas vagas para pessoas negras (pretas e pardas), mulheres mães e outros segmentos pouco representados no espaço acadêmico. ​ O curso é gratuito? Sim! A inscrição e participação no curso, são totalmente gratuitas. ​ Quem pode participar desse curso de extensão? 1) Profissionais das áreas de Serviço Social, Ciências Humanas, Ciências Sociais e Ciências Sociais Aplicadas e Letras que pretendem escrever projetos de pesquisa para pós. ​ 2) Estudantes de graduação, mestrado e doutorado das áreas citadas. *Indicado para estudantes de graduação e pós que em 2024 estejam fazendo TCC, dissertação ou tese. ​ As aulas serão presenciais ou online? A modalidade do curso é online. As aulas serão transmitidas apenas para pessoas inscritas no curso por meio de uma plataforma. ​ Qual a duração do curso? A carga horária total do curso é de 36h. As aulas acontecerão às quartas-feiras às 19h, do dia 20/03/24 até o dia 12/06/24. ​ O curso oferece certificado de conclusão? De quantas horas? Sim! O certificado é de 36h. Para receber certificado, participantes precisam ter frequência superior a 75%. Não serão conferidos certificados por aulas avulsas. ​ Haverá lista de presença? Sim! As listas de presença serão compartilhadas antes de cada aula acabar. Qual o limite de faltas? Para poder receber o certificado, você pode faltar, no máximo, 3 aulas. As aulas ficarão gravadas? As gravações das aulas ficarão disponíveis apenas para cursistas por até 24h depois do término de cada aula. Se eu faltar no dia da aula, posso assistir a aula gravada? Sim, enquanto a aula estiver disponível na plataforma, mas assistir a aula depois não contará como presença. ​ Quais serão as condições para aprovação no curso? A metodologia da avaliação será participativa. Para ser aprovado(a) e receber o certificado de conclusão de curso, é preciso ter, pelo menos, 70% de presença nas aulas, preencher formulários de avaliação passados ao longo das aulas e responder às questões indicadas ao longo das semanas. ​ E como eu avalio o curso? A cada aula você será convidado a preencher um formulário para oferecer sugestões de melhoria e conteúdos para as aulas. ​ Quais os assuntos das aulas? Teremos aulas sobre: Como construir uma relação ético-política com a pesquisa; o que é um Projeto de Pesquisa e em que momento e como submetê-lo a um comitê de ética; quais são os ciclos de pesquisa, seus objetivos e metodologia; como apresentar sua pesquisa/trabalho em público; dilemas éticos e inteligência artificial. Esse curso faz parte das atividades do Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisas Sankofa: Racismo, política social e transgressões na diáspora, no eixo de propostas para formação crítica e estratégias pedagógicas.
